Esmerelda & Squawk

When she was just a little girl, Esmerelda would draw treasure maps and tell lurid tales of adventure at sea. No-one believed her when she said the stories came from her Grandpapa’s parrot.

Defiant Esmerelda took to the ocean as soon as she was old enough. Grandpapa Flintlock may be in retirement now, but Squawk has a new partner in crime.

Obadiah Eightbones - piratical octopus extrordinaire

Ancient mariner Obadiah Eightbones is a legend in his own mysteriously long lifetime. An occasional accomplice of one Esmerelda Flintlock in more recent days, Obadiah has appeared in etchings and shanties dating back to the 1880s. Seafaring folk agree he has been suspiciously quiet of late, and that it cannot last for much longer. Curiously, Miss Flintlock was disinclined to comment.

When Esmerelda was seventeen, she and Squawk left Flintlock Manor to find their fortune on the high seas. As a novice swashbuckler, Esmerelda prudently enlisted assistance from Squawk’s old nautical comrades.

Very old and very wise, Odadiah Eightbones was a wonderful mentor. More than one legendary treasure map had been named after him. Only Obadiah knew which ones still contained treasure, and the truest interpretation of the drawn terrain. Which, for a sea-dwelling creature, was an astounding feat. Small wonder that strange rumours abound about Obadiah’s abilities.

Esmerelda’s first ship was funded and filled with crew and supplies thanks to Obadiah’s assistance on the matter of lost treasure chests. Esmerelda has long since discarded the first old treasure map. She now has more remarkable souvenirs of her adventures with Obadiah and Squawk. However, ‘X’ still marks the spot, and can lead to wonderful discoveries if you’re bold enough to click on it…
